From Hannah on
Etsy, Her store is called Reprieve's Corner...... here is her story on this project:
I'm a member of the Etsy team, O. C. E. A. N. (Oregon Coast Etsy Artist Network). Every month the team captain will issue a challenge for the members. The following is a description of the March challenge (due by March 3rd):
"Create something new and usable, pretty to sell. It must be in Spring colors or spring theme. Think nesting, birds, flowers, etc in light greens, pinks, yellow and blue bird blue."
To be completely honest, I really struggled with this month's challenge. In the end, I decided to create a spring nest with hatching birds.
My project fulfills all of the requirements. The nest itself was a failed sewing project (I was attempting to sew a turtle stuffed animal but something went wrong). The incomplete sewing project definitely falls into the category of things that I would usually throw away!
Next, my room mate's grandmother was cleaning out her garage and came across a bag of old crafting supplies and odds and ends. It's not quite the same as visiting a thrift store, but close enough! The little birds and the old Easter eggs were inside the bag.
So, I gathered together all of the elements. I added some more fabric to the incomplete turtle shell to create a plush nest. I added some hand stitches to make it curve up on the sides. I then used a hot glue gun to attach the birds and eggs.
Then we have this Spring Bride Painting from
Josies Art Attic on Etsy:
Spring Bride is an original acrylic painting on a recycled canvas. 7 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches
Lovely Work Josie!
This Comfy and cuddly Golden Yellow Afghan is from
All Sunflowers On Etsy:
Rich golden yellow afghan with pink, white and blue stripes. Perfect for the back of the couch or an extra layer on the bed.
Measures about 56" square.
Acrylic and polyester blend for easy care. Machine washable and dryable.
This afghan is already laundered and ready to use or give as a gift.
NOTE: I think she said this yarn was vintage or found in a thrift store and thus put it too good use.
These burlap table settings were repurposed b
y Salzanos on Etsy: They were backed with yellow used fabric, and trimmed with used Jute twine. The little flaws just made it look all the more "rustic" country! AND they have sold already to Europe male buyer!
Final entry on our team page for the challenge comes from Patti over at
Altered State of Tin:
This piece was inspired by a challenge our Etsy Team (O.C.E.A.N. (Oregon Coast Etsy Artist Network) had this month.
The challenge was to create something using recycled items . When I was finished it looked like a wedding cake to me so that is why I call it a Wedding Cake Keepsake Box.
This box was created with the bride in mind.
Created from a round cardboard box measuring 5.5 " in diameter and 3.75" deep.
The outer bottom of the box has been covered with white satin ribbon and the outer lid is trimmed with white lace and satin ribbon trim. The top of the box is the original box design with pink background tiny black polka dots and dark pink rose buds. Accented with pick spotted feathers and a metal frame with a photo of a bride and groom inside glass. One corner of the frame has a pink fused glass heart. The inside lid is trimmed with white cotton eyelet trim.
This box looks like a wedding cake and would make a great gift for the bride to keep small memories in such as her garter, petals from her bouquet, the key to the bridal suite or any other sentimental item from her wedding or honeymoon.

My thanks to all members who took time to enter the challenge and I hope we will pass this blog post on to our friends to come see all the awesome things these artists are working so hard to make! We love their dedication and involvement! I wonder what challenge is coming up.......hmmmmmm
